|  Things to Do & Places to Visit in Soria:
Berlanga de Duero- Take a delightful walk around the town and its places of interest, including the Castle, built between the 15th and 16th century and the remains of the Renaissance Palace next to it. Close by is the house where Fray Tomas was born in 1487. Fray Tomas was credited with discovering the Galapagos Islands when his ship was sent of course on the way to Peru. He returned from the Americas with flora and fauna specimens never seen in Spain before.
San Baudelio- This 11th century hermitage contains one of the most important examples of ‘mozarabe’ art in Spain. The 11th to 12th century colourful frescos are of Christian and Arab influences.
Calatanazor- Travel back in time to the Middle Ages in the romantic medieval hilltop village of Calatañazor, declared a national monument for its historic and artistic beauty. The adobe facades, conical chimneys and narrow lanes were filmed in Orson Wells’ Shakespeare epic, ‘Chimes at Midnight’ and David Leans classic Doctor Zhivago.
Incense Juniper Forest- Perhaps the largest and best preserved Incense Juniper forest in the world, a species that is now considered endangered.
Nature Reserve La Fuentona- Take one of the walks that guide you through the forest on to ‘La Fuentona’, a lake with a subterranean world of caves that run deep under its waters.
Canyon Rio Lobos Nature Park- Spend some time exploring the Nature Park of ‘Canon Rîo Lobos’, River of Wolves Canyon. The 9500 hectares (23400 acres) of pristine wilderness was declared a Nature Park in 1985, for its natural beauty and variety of flora and fauna. Throughout the parks popular walking tracks you will see Vultures nesting on the Canyons limestone cliffs and majestically circling the skies above. There is a walk inside the canyon where you will discover the isolated Knights Templar hermitage of San Bartolome. |
